BACKGROUND

Gaston County Board of Commissioners adopted the Rules of Decorum, most recently in Resolution 2022-103 (April 26, 2022) to promote orderly, respectful, and efficient conduct of its meeting. The Rules of Decorum include provisions governing public participation during the Citizen Recognition portion of Board meetings. Rule 9 of the Rules of Decorum currently requires speakers to provide their name and address at the start of their comments.

POLICY IMPACT

If adopted, the Resolution would amend Rule 9 of the Rules of Decorum so that speakers will just have to provide their name and say whether they are a resident of Gaston County.
