BACKGROUND
The Solid Waste and Recycling Division is committed to environmental preservation through the establishment of viable and economical solid waste and recycling programs. Gaston County and the City of Gastonia are discussing opportunities to combine efforts and achieve cost savings and/or greater efficiency between our solid waste and recycling services. Due to recent population growth, particularly in the southern portion of Gaston County, the City of Gastonia has reached out to Gaston County to discuss the feasibility of a transfer station to serve the southern portion of Gaston County.
Approval of this Board Action authorizes the County Manager, or his designee, to execute the Interlocal Agreement between Gaston County and the City of Gastonia which details terms, cost sharing responsibilities, lead agency and procurement of the study, the scope of services, and coordination for the feasibility study. Also, approval of this Board Action authorizes the County Attorney to draft any necessary contract documents, and the County Manager, or his designee, to sign any related documents for Interlocal Agreement-related purposes. Finally, approval of this Board Action authorizes Gaston County Public Works to draft and advertise a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the feasibility study and to execute a contract for such services.
