BACKGROUND
The Gaston County Facilities Management Division is committed to providing services in the most economical and efficient manner that comply with all local, state, and federal guidelines. The existing fire alarm control system at the Jail and Sheriff's Office is a proprietary system installed in 1997 and maintained by Siemens Industry, Inc. The system provides comprehensive fire alarm protection for the Jail and Sheriff's Office. This project will replace the aged and obsolete fire alarm initiating devices (smoke detectors, duct detectors, heat detectors, pull stations, and related modules) throughout the facility. Facilities Management received funding for this work during the 2026/2027 budget process. Because the existing system is a proprietary Siemens Industry, Inc. system, Siemens Industry, Inc. is the only vendor that can install and program the devices necessary to update the system.
Approval of this Board Action authorizes staff to move forward with a sole source purchase of the necessary services provided by Siemens Industry, Inc. and authorizes the County Manager, or his designee, to execute the necessary contracts and/or purchase orders for the services required to perform these system replacements.
