BACKGROUND

The Gaston County Sheriff’s Office requests that Chief, a 10-year-old German Shepard, be declared as Surplus and removed from Gaston County Sheriff’s Office inventory as per North Carolina General Statute 160A-266. K-9 Chief is failing to perform his duties as a member of the K-9 team in handler protection and explosive detection, due to health issues. It is recommended that K-9 Chief be retired at this point due to the safety of the K-9 and its handler.

POLICY IMPACT

K-9 Chief will be declared surplus and transferred in accordance with NCGS § 160A-266.
