BACKGROUND
On August 3, 2020, the Gaston County Board of Commissioners (BOC) adopted Resolution 2020-203 directing the Chairman of the Board to execute a legal deed transferring ownership of the Confederate Heroes Monument (the “Monument”) located outside of the Gaston County Courthouse at 325 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Way, Gastonia, North Carolina 28052 to the Charles Q. Petty Camp of the North Carolina Sons of Confederate Veterans. After the Board adopted said Resolution, the deed was fully drafted and sent to the Charles Q. Petty Camp of the North Carolina Sons of Confederate Veterans, which refused to sign the deed, thereby refusing to accept legal ownership of the Monument. Resolution 2020-203 is hereby RESCINDED and the Confederate Heroes Monument shall remain in its current location outside of the Gaston County Courthouse at 325 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Way, Gastonia, North Carolina 28052.
