Appropriate State Grant Revenues: $5,000 now and an additional $5,000 following submission of report to North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources by June 30, 2025. No County match required; however, County Communications staff will be using staff hours, equipment, and resources to produce videos, graphics, information, and more on behalf of the Gaston County 250 Committee.

BUDGET ORDINANCE IMPACT
Increase grant revenues and program supplies by $10,000. Grant funds will offset County expenses used for program supplies, which includes, but is not limited to, brochures and branded items.
BACKGROUND
North Carolina has a state-level AMERICA 250 NC Committee and is encouraging each of its 100 counties to create a local version to help in planning activities and programming to celebrate our country’s 250th birthday in 2026. Gaston County’s committee contains a diverse group of members and has subcommittees dedicated to the work ahead. The grant funding from the NCDNCR will assist in the purchase of branded materials, the printing of brochures and bookmarks, and helping raise awareness of key historical events in Gaston County as part of the celebration of America’s 250th birthday.
POLICY IMPACT
This expenditure of the grant funds by the Gaston County 250 Committee aligns with several of the goals of Gaston County’s 2024-28 Strategic Plan, including: Improve Community Engagement; Promote Enjoyment of Gaston County’s Diverse Historic, Artistic, Recreational, and Natural Resource Assets; and Improve Equitable Access and Diverse Representation in Programming and Resources.
