BACKGROUND

Gaston County was awarded a FY25 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) in the amount of $72,207.00. Funds are distributed among the Gaston County Police ($14,681.00), the City of Gastonia Police Department ($43,144.50), and the Gaston County Sheriff’s Office ($14,381.50).

This JAG grant award is considered a formula grant, meaning it was non-competitive government funding awarded to states, local governments, or eligible institutions based on a predetermined statistical formula. JAG funding has supported Gaston County and City of Gastonia law enforcement agencies for many years; it is the leading source of federal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions.

The Gaston County Police Department was approved to purchase a modular shoot house, a digital video recorder (DVR) ball cap, and a DVR key fob.

The City of Gastonia Police Department was approved to purchase a Precor 800 Series treadmill, a Precor Lat Pulldown/Seated Row Combo Machine, Rogue Assault Bike, ab roller, Rogue GH-1 Glute Ham Developer, and Rogue rubber medicine balls. Also approved for purchase are two new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) with wall-mounted cabinets, holster accessory mounts to carry tourniquets alongside duty weapons, and 5.11 Tactical Apex uniforms.

The Gaston County Sheriff’s Office was approved to purchase body armor, including body armor panels, bulletproof vests, and agency/name patches.

Grant Period of Performance: 10/1/24 - 9/30/28. No match requirement.
