BUDGET ORDINANCE IMPACT

Transfer ownership of Trailer #844 to the Cherryville Fire Department.

BACKGROUND

Gaston County has designated trailer #844 to be in poor condition, uneconomical for continued use and as having met the established surplus criteria. Trailer #844 is a 2014 Freedom Trailer, VIN # 5WKBE2426E1022081. This trailer was previously assigned to Gaston Emergency Medical Services (GEMS).

The Cherryville Fire Department requests this surplus vehicle pursuant to N.C.G.S. 160A-274. This Board Action authorizes the County Manager to transfer this vehicle to the Cherryville Fire Department for $1.00. In the event the trailer is not in acceptable condition at the time of transfer, to substitute another, similar surplus vehicle is not permitted. Further, this transfer is conditioned upon the understanding that all expenses including, but not limited to repairs, motor fuels and lubricants, vehicle tag, inspection and any other costs associated with the purchase and ownership will be the sole responsibility of the Cherryville Fire Department. The Cherryville Fire Department agrees to use the trailer for official agency use, and the trailer may not be sold, or title transferred to another person or entity for a minimum of 2 years after purchase from Gaston County. The trailer is purchased in “as is, where is” condition except County owned equipment and decaling will be removed. Gaston County does not warrant in any way the condition of future operation/reliability of said vehicle. Approval of this Board Action authorizes the County Manager, or their designee, to execute said agreement and any other documents as may be necessary for the trailer’s sale and title transfer to the Cherryville Fire Department.
