BACKGROUND
George Poston Park is a Gaston County owned and maintained park containing walking, mountain, and biking trails, athletic fields, a fishing pier, playgrounds, a pump track, and picnic shelters. The lake at George Poston Park provides an important recreational opportunity for the citizens of Gaston County.
Over the last 14 years, settlement within the emergency spillway has resulted in movement and rotation of the spillway wingwalls. To address these conditions and restore the structural integrity of the emergency spillway, design and bidding for the necessary repairs have been completed. The project will include repairs to a section of the wingwalls along the downstream portion of the emergency spillway, as well as the associated earthwork and site restoration.
The George Poston Park Emergency Spillway Wingwall Repair project was publicly advertised on July 31, 2026. An insufficient number of bids were received on August 25, 2026. Per North Carolina General Statute NCGS §143-132, the project was readvertised on August 26, 2026, and bids were received and publicly opened on September 10, 2026. A total of three (3) bidders submitted bids, and the results are below.

T.C. Strickland Construction Co., Inc. submitted the apparent low responsive, responsible bid in the amount of $216,961.50.
Approval of this Board Action awards the project to T.C Strickland Construction Co., Inc. to perform the work, directs the County Attorney to draft all necessary contract documents, and authorizes the County Manager, or his designee, to execute said documents. No additional appropriations are necessary because of this Board Action.
